When a prospective client first contacted me to redesign his traditional Lake Jeanette house into something more contemporary and fun, it seemed like a cool project. He said he wanted a “New York Loft” in the middle of the conservative Greensboro neighborhood.

ASID Award

Little did I know that a year later I would be winning an A.S.I.D. (American Society of Interior Design) Excellence in Design Award for this project!!!

There’s no better reward than recognition by your peers….

What a wonderful opportunity to be creative and utilize all of the design tools in my toolbox. Having a trusting and confident client didn’t hurt either – he was always willing to be adventurous with my colors, finishes, lighting, art, furnishings, and accessories selections.

The end result got quite a bit of publicity. It was part of this year’s Tour of Remodeled Homes, and it was twice featured in the News and Record.

A Slice of New York in Greensboro

This home features a dramatic underlit floating staircase with stainless steel railings, Italian Murano Glass light fixtures, hand painted murals, spectacular art by New York artists, comfortable furniture, bars, a putting green, and even a fan named “The Big Ass Fan” (really!!).

3D Lit Wall Art

One of the features that was mentioned at the awards ceremony was a unique 3D lit wall art, which I designed from scratch and had built by local craftsman. We are now working on several other exciting projects – maybe another award next year??? Ahhhhhh- I think they’ve created a monster!
