Sometimes it is easy to get stuck in a rut. You walk into a furniture store, see a set you like, by the whole package, bring it home, set it up, and it looks… well, expected.
While that set made it easy to get in and out, its not the look you were going for. As designers, instead of getting everything to “match”, we look for an opportunity to create a custom and unique setting, built with elements in various styles, textures, and colors that work together .
We mix different pieces together and can create custom pieces to design your home in a different and unique way.
When everything is in the same finish or has identical detailing and scale, it gets a little boring.
Why not introduce a new finish, or better yet a painted piece. Painted furniture can work with almost any style and it goes with any finish. It has become very popular in the world of home furnishings and can be found from practically any furniture manufacturer, from entry level to high end.
Painted pieces are not just shabby chic any more either. You can find any style from modern to cottage and on any level of finish from high lacquered to heavily distressed.
As shown in the picture to the right, combining different color furniture gives your space a custom look!
Introduce it in small doses if you’re not too sure this is your cup of tea. A pair of chairs finished in a lacquered bright pear green makes a fun and unexpected impact and can be just enough.
Using painted chairs around your dinner table is a great example of how using painted pieces can easily result in an impressive designer look. {source}
Here are a few examples of some great pieces that could be exchanged for one or two pieces in that “matching set” you’ve grown tired of. These pieces are unique. They offer a way for your space to look different from anything thathas been done before. The colors will make your space fun!
